The syllabus, which is taught and examined at undergraduate level, aims to give a good practical grounding in public relations. The syllabus covers such topics as basic communications theories; history and development of PR practice and how it is evolving; the business, political and social environment; writing skills; media relations; event management; reflective practice.

The course will be examined by three assessments:

Critical Reasoning Test – a test taken by candidates at home over a period of one week.

A portfolio of four items, with detailed rationale and reflection based on a given case study

A 2,500 word critique on a topic to be agreed with the tutor

Student's must pass all three assessments to gain the CIPR Advanced Certificate. There will be two opportunities to retake any failed assessments.
