Martina Ličková from Slovakia
In a few posts Apeiron Academy, an Accredited Centre of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in Bulgaria, will present the students in the first class of the British professional qualification for internal communications specialists - Internal Communications Certificate.
We are starting with Martina Ličková - one of the two awarded with full scholarship from the International Scholarship Competition Apeiron Academy announced in November 2009. You can read her competition essay here.

Martina, how does your work day go?
Well, pretty good - jusy enough time to solve all duties.
Create the profile of a good internal communication specialist, as you see it.
I still don´t have a clear idea what internal communication should present - not because of the course 
Mainly because I didn´t have chance to speak with one in Slovakia, so just a few thought on this topic:
- It should be a person truly loving communication and people, willing to communicate every possible moment and set up communication direction in tough times as well
- An “out of the box” thinking professional focused on strategic discussion with the business side
- A professional able to analyze a lot of data based on a proper research
If you need to describe in a few words what lies behind the abbreviation CIPR ICC to a close friend, outside the field of communications, what would those words be?
Hahaha, doing it all the time since I came back from Sofia after the first training
I tell them its a course preparing professionals with various background to master internal communication in organisations, to learn how to do a proper research, how to step forward strategic internal communication instead just the typical things like preparing a corporate newsletter.
What motivates you in your work as a professional communicator?
At the momemt - nothing thus I don´t work as a internal comm. But I started to advice my clients on this topic - and the motivation is their willingness to listen. Which is great for the begining…
Tell us about an event or occasion when you were really proud and happy with your work.
Our blog will develop a bit, I hope for that in the next months - and that´s ” my baby” which I hope will be better and more and more read.
Many employers do not understand the benefits of internal communications. If you face such a manager what would your strongest argument for the need of an internal communication specialist position or department be?
If people understand what there is to do, if they know how it has to be done, and they will be more productive… and I would show him data/numbers of some interesting research.
And since we started with your workday - how do you relax and entertain?
I went for a great lunch with my friend, great coffee afterwards

Martina Ličková is from Bratislava, Slovakia and is a Master in Political Science. Martina has a certificate in Business Management from Lloyds International College, Sydney - Australia. She has advanced level of English, German and Czech. Since 2008 she is working as Project Coordinator/ Account Manager - Human Resources Consulting at KNO Slovakia .
Martina impressed the competition jury with her essay on the topic Successful communication start from within. Although she has no experience in Internal Communication, she clear understands the importance of the employees and the floating communication for the organizations.
