Petya, how does your work day go?
Every day is different. Most of my work days start with a cup of coffee and end with a nice book or chat with a friend… and in between interviews, writing profiles, emails, newsletters, bulletins… in one word communication
Create the profile of a good internal communication specialist, as you see it.
Some kind of superhero hears everything from within and without the company; sees the future - future problems, communication needs, peer groups, etc.; has great intuition using it to target audience, to choose correct communication channels, to identify and define problems… always ready to support a change or to provoke it. Maybe I should use on of my favorite quotes: ‘Aut inveniam viam, aut faciam’* (Hannibal).
If you need to describe in a few words what lies behind the abbreviation CIPR ICC to a close friend, outside the field of communications, what would those words be?
Well, it is really difficult question, because I tried different explanations and didn’t get universal one that is always working. I try to make my friends imagine it. The easiest way was to provoke them to formulate a problem at their work place - conflicts with colleagues/ managers, resistance to changes of structure or responsibilities caused by the economic downturn, less social benefits, etc. Then it is simple to find a way to conclude that communication is the solution of all these problems…And this course brings us closer to the solution.
What motivates you in your work as a professional communicator?
Although my position now has much more with HR than with PR or internal communication, I had the opportunity to try different approaches to different audiences and I find most motivating people’s gratitude.
Tell us about an event or occasion when you were really proud and happy with your work.
The popularization of Antal International’s quarterly survey Global Snapshot focused on hiring and firing trends around the world. Some years ago I loved helping with career days, info campaigns and conferences, now I miss that.
Many employers do not understand the benefits of internal communications. If you face such a manager what would your strongest argument for the need of an internal communication specialist position or department be?
Communication is the key to employee engagement, and engaged employees, knowing the strategy of our company, make up to 20 % more profit, so when do we start earning some money?
And since we started with your workday - how do you relax and entertain?
Friends, friends, friends - a dinner or a lunch, a movie, a concert, a walk in the park… Can we get enough of communication?
Thank you Petya and good luck!

*’Aut inveniam viam, aut faciam‘ is Latin for “I shall either find a way or make one”. The phrase has been attributed to Hannibal; when his generals told him it was impossible to cross the Alps by elephant, this was supposedly his response.
